Money Loss Experience I Had From Buying The Richest Man In Babylon

There aren’t enough hours in the day to read what I want to read in my constant quest for knowledge. My business is as an entrepreneur, so I’m always interested in new ways of making money. An audio book seemed a good idea to fill in the time when I was driving.

I read the reviews of several money making audio books before settling for The Richest Man in Babylon. I only paid $4.95 for this, and quite frankly it was a complete waste of money.

The voices used in audio books are vital, and the old English tongue used here was far from impressive, and quickly began to grate. There was also only just over 4 hours of listening time.

To be honest, this book should be marketed towards those who are just starting out in the money making game and are eager to think themselves clever by decoding stories and finding the not too well hidden meanings. Most of the principals are obvious, though some are understated.

As opposed to just one story, The Richest Man in Babylon is a compilation of tales which run concurrently. The stories are simple to grasp but the characters get confused.

If you are hoping to learn something new from this book, you will be as disappointed as me. It preaches the old principal of the divisible income, you know the one. Spend 10% on investments, 70% on everyday needs and the remaining 20% on clearing debts.

Other wise teachings are that you should never accept financial advice from those who aren’t experts, and don’t become a heavy gambler…I kid you not!

All this is well and good if you are either a child or a bit of an idiot, but if you have to be told this stuff you shouldn’t be working in finance.

The Richest Man in Babylon may have had great reviews, but unless you are an absolute beginner who doesn’t even have a bank account, you will learn absolutely nothing from this book and it will be four hours of your life that you will never get back again. That may sound harsh but I am a successful business man seeking more success, not looking to go over stuff that I learnt at grade school.

5 Helpful Tips to Keep you Focused on Your Home Based Business!

Trust me, after almost twenty years in the traditional fast pace business environment; it fills great to be able to roll out of bed and make the long walk to my computer to go to work. While my friends and family were stuck in traffic or fighting the cold this morning I was warm and cozy in my office chair. They were rushing out the door trying to be on time, as I was sitting down to start my day as a home based business owner. I currently run 2 small businesses out of one room in my home.

Ok enough of the pleasantries, because as wonderful as working at home is, you must possess some great skills to find success at it. I am talking about time management and organization. If you are not careful, the comfort and distractions of having a home business can also be the doom of the very same thing. You have to find ways to ignore the laundry, cleaning and cooking that seems to be calling you throughout the day and make sure you stay on the task at hand. To help you accomplish just that, I have come up with a few tips that might make your life easier.

1: Be honest with yourself. The first thing I had to do was ask myself a group of questions. Can I do this? Do I have what it takes to stay focused amid daily routine household distractions? Can I work to meet the deadlines while still retaining my freedom that I worked so hard to achieve? Freedom is great but it doesn’t pay the bills and if you don’t have the focus you need, this could be a disaster waiting to happen. Before you give a home based business a go, ask yourself the tough questions and try your best to answer them honestly.

2: This is a real job. – At times, working from home may seem like a fairytale – but it is indeed a fulltime real job. Even though you have the luxury of avoiding all the traditional workplace drama, you still need to get a full days work in. Lounging around the house does not pay the bills all by itself. You need to set a schedule and follow it everyday to make sure you are working to the fullest extent. You might want to set times for breaks and lunch just like you would in a traditional job.

3: Appoint an accountability partner. As I write this I am waiting on my daily phone call from my manager, (I mean my husband) who will be calling to tell me he loves me, but more importantly checking in to get a status report. This accountability is very important to me and my husband has obliged me by checking in with me a couple of times a day. It gives me a compass to go by and goals to reach as my day progresses. See, I may be the CEO of this little room I am working from, but even CEO’s have to answer to someone. I do not want to disappoint either of us, so I work extra hard to achieve the goals that I have set aside for my day. It is easy to let ourselves down, but it’s not easy to let down that one person who has always believed in you.

4: Work hours are for work. – No matter how much you may be tempted to run those errands, spend time with your family or make that extra call to your best friend, work hours really need to be set aside for, you guessed it, WORK. Keep that time of day dedicated to work, but at the same time, when the whistle blows, be sure and give your family the same courtesy after hours.

5: How organized are you? – This is another very important question you need to address. De-clutter your home business surroundings. Concentrate on putting things away when you are finished with them, both on your computer and in your filing cabinet. Label everything in folders both online and offline. Being organized can lead to your success more quickly.

I hope these tips will help you with managing your time when it comes to your home based business. Having the right frame of mind and organization can be the real difference in your success.

Utilizing A Personal Development Business-The Industry On Fire

The personal development business is growing at an unprecedented rate. Though different studies show their own unique set of numbers, everyone agrees that the self-improvement business and the personal development industry are on the rise again. People don’t just want a job where all they do is clock in, clock out and just go through the motions. People are looking for more. Many feel the need to find something more fulfilling, something that they can feel passionate about and something where they feel like they are growing every day and feeling a sense of purpose.

People aren’t just waiting around for success to fall from the sky. Most folks agree that the initiative to change for the better will bring about positive results. Some trends to notice are the rise in high school graduates attending college immediately after they graduate. In 2004, the percentage was 55.7%, but by 2006, 62% of high school graduates had enrolled in further education. Another rising trend is in the sales of express workout gyms. In just the past decade, these gyms have sold over 10,000 units and growing.

Also, self-help books have exceeded $600 million in annual sales. Even though self-help books were virtually non-existent over a century ago, personal development is estimated to jump over the $14 billion mark in 2010. In just the past few years, the exponential growth of this industry has far surpassed the 10-12% yearly growth rate.

Where is the explosion occurring? All facets of life are experiencing this to some extent, and though the catalyst has come from the Baby Boomers, the younger generations are experiencing it as well. Whether it is the dramatic increase in the sales of self-help books and audio books, the prolific growth of the number of personal life coaches, the meteoric rise in vitamins and holistic medicinal approaches, or the number of people who are going back to school and who are learning new skills, young and old alike are impacted.

Personal development is a great opportunity for continued success in life. Whether someone is looking to get healthier, become smarter, have more energy, acquire a new skill, or increase their income, they realize that personal development is the answer.

Let’s face it. If you are in the office, side by side with a peer who is frequently working out at the gym, taking a course in public speaking, learning a foreign language, mastering stress management techniques through yoga, and listening to any audio book that he or she can find that is related to your industry, who do you think is going to get the big raise at the end of the year?

Self improvement increases your skills and abilities. That part is obvious. The more subtle effect, though, is that self improvement also boosts your confidence. When you grow or learn something new, that’s one more success story for your ego. It doesn’t have to result in an overinflated ego; but it can yield an assuredness, a sense of self-worth that legitimately increases your belief that you can take on the world, and it affects your management’s perceptions as well.

Personal growth and personal development bring success into your life. If you’re not learning and growing, then by default, you will be stagnating and dying. Rather than having an apathetic attitude about growth and change, join the bandwagon towards a better life. By learning a new skill, working on healthier habits, and boosting your personal power, you will be a better asset to everyone and everything in your life.

Want to tap into the next big boom? As higher consciousness hits the mainstream, increasingly, individuals are seeking alternatives for a personal development business to increase their income exponentially. Always remember that you’re paid according to your mind set. If it’s to be, it’s up to me.

The Secret Benefits Of Having A Clean And Tidy Office Or Working Environment Listed

Do you want to be more productive in your job? Are you lagging behind your colleagues and you don’t understand why? Well the benefits of having a clean and tidy office or working environment, can be directly related to how you do your job. Researchers say that cluttering our lives is a mechanism for us to procrastinate by distracting the brain to give us what we want.

You might think that a clean desk with everything neatly packed away is too clinical, but this is exactly what you want if you need to focus your attention on your job, rather than all the millions of things clogging up your work space.

A neat environment will give the brain a chance to compute what it is asked to do and cannot be distracted by bouncing frogs or a mile high stack of files. A highly organized desk and environment will also immediately give a sense of professionalism, especially if you work with the public. You are able to find something fast because it is on a demarcated spot.

A messy work environment does nothing for ones stress levels. The calm and tranquil space you so desperately need is not forthcoming, so you cannot relax. The brain interprets mess and clutter as an extension to the body and this in itself can make you sick. What you need is a place which is soft on the eye. Colors should also be more pastel in tone and furniture could also be of a more lighter wood.

But what should a typical tidy desk look like, well it’s quite easy. Your computer, telephone, plant, photo and a pen and pencil should be on the desk only. Nothing should lie around because you have drawers and cabinets as storage space. Only have the work that you are doing at the moment on your desk and as soon as you have finished, pack away things so that your desk is always neat.

The goal is to get focused so that you can be a more productive individual. So make this your number one priority in life. Tidy up your desk and pack those items away which belong in a closet or drawers. Place a plant or hang a picture on your nearest wall or place a colorful rug at your feet. Your computer and phone should be placed where you can easily reach them.

It will only take a few times of tidying up for you to realize the benefits of having a clean and tidy office or working environment. Get your staff or your colleagues to take part in a fun clean-up day and motivate them by having an incentive each month for the tidiest looking desk. It is a guaranteed winner and will get people talking about their attitude towards clutter more easily.

How to Get Free Publicity with a Fact Sheet

If you want to get free publicity, you need to send a press release to the media. But a press release is basically your calling card to the media. It is a sales pitch that contains the hook of the story and some basic facts. It covers the broad strokes, not the details. So if you really want to increase the probability that your press release will be read, you may want to add in a fact sheet as a separate item.

For this reason, many people who are serious about getting publicity create what is called a press kit, which may include, among other items, a photo, a list of suggested questions and a fact sheet.

A great way to make your pitch to the media stronger is to augment is to include a separate fact sheet with the press release. Fact sheets are easy to create. Simply list of series of facts that relate to your story.

For the sake of this discussion, let’s say that you’re a real estate agent or broker. You could create a fact sheet that has the following types of information:

The median price of the average home in your area.

What the median price in your area was six months ago.

Average length of time a house is on the market this year vs this time last year, and so on.

You might also want to list some facts about your company, especially if you’re beating the competition. Some of the things you can include might be:

How many homes you’ve sold so far this year, or the monthly average

The average number of homes sold by all the realtors in your area

How many years you’ve been in business

How many agents your company has

It’s important to know that you can create a large number of fact sheets that can support a wide variety of press releases or story pitches. Keep in mind the value that adding a fact sheet to your press release can add. Then see how fast your free publicity grows. Remember what they used to say in the old “Dragnet” TV show and movie, “Just the facts, ma’am.

Finally a SYSTEM for Success @ Home!

Direct Marketing Businesses are full of terrific products and services. Yet the success rate of participants in these enterprises is notoriously terrible! Why is this so?

We believe the reason is quite simple. Actual (or potential) marketers feel that they either cannot do what is required of them, or are simply unwilling to do what is necessary. Cannot because they lack the skills or training, will not because of comfort level, pride, or perhaps introversion. And what is necessary?

The skill set typically understood to lead to success in Home Based Business includes “pitching and prodding, sifting and sorting!”

Is it any wonder so many people decline the offer, despite promises of high weekly paychecks, to “get involved?” Prospects believe, with good reason, that their success will depend on their ability to “pitch and prod,” and “sift and sort.”

When you prove to your prospects and team members by example that success depends on pitching, prodding, sifting, and sorting… they don’t want to be like you!

Aye, there’s the rub. In order for these business models to be successful, there must be duplication of effort. This is often referred to as leveraging. There is no duplication of effort, no leveraging, if your team cannot or will not do what you do.

What activities will you do, as team leader and business builder, that your team can and will do as well? Decades in the industry have taught us that what can and will be replicated is a system that combines an automated lead generation process with a deliberate but limited personal interface. The internet now gives us the perfect chance to put such a system in place.

We invite you to learn about the system now available that allows you and all of your team members to achieve success by leveraging your efforts in a way that makes duplication not only possible but probable.

How To Get Local Publicity To Promote Your Book

So, you have completed and published your first book. What do you do now? Well, it is time to show you how book promotion and publicity market your book. Although this may appear to be a daunting task, there are numerous opportunities for you to take this most important step.

With the many online companies that will help you self-publish, once completed, the tasks of promotion and publicity fall into your hands. Depending on the topic, you will be able to find many local options to get your book and your face in front of a potential buying audience. However, be aware of many companies online that claim that they can help you. They will offer you online seminars on the proper procedures and techniques to get your book out to the public. Just be careful as if you published this piece yourself, you may have budget constraints and all of this can cost you quite a lot of money. What they will attempt to show you, in many cases, is the use of common sense. You will be exposed to marketers that are more interested in selling you stuff, more than they are interested in helping you sell your book, or at least make people aware that you wrote something of value. So, beware.

Depending on the size of the closest major city, you can find multiple chances to put your composition out to the public. Hopefully, some of these ideas will help you with your launch. However, know this. Although you have written what you hope will be a well received piece of literature, how you market the book and yourself will go a long way in establishing your success.

A more localized marketing plan, a plan that you can replicate, is truly guerrilla marketing, but can give you immediate feedback and sales, plus you get to meet your readers. There are some simple methods to do this, so it is important that you do as many things as you can to get your name, face and book, into the public eye.

How many bookstores are within 50 miles of where you live? Once you know that, contact them. Usually the best method is to make a personal visit and speak with the owner of the store. Again, assuming you have written about an interesting topic, you may get them to let you do a book signing. If you are really good, they may let you have a discussion group in the store explaining your topic and why you chose to write about it. Then you can meet with your potential customers, they can learn to like you and that generally creates some interest in buying your book. So, be prepared. You will need fliers and copies of the book. Try to set it up so you have a couple of weeks to advertise your visit. If you can tie that into a slot on a local radio or television station, you may be very surprised at how many people show up.

There are so many local radio shows that likely will have a potential slot for you, especially if their show covers any topics discussed in your book. They are easy to contact and are always interested in entertaining guests, as a way to gather more of the listening audience. Every television station and newspaper is looking for great local stories. Contact them, explain the who, what, when, where, why and how’s of your composition and you may find yourself sitting on the stage with a local television celebrity.

Most cities have daily or at least weekly Networking meetings. These are gatherings of local business people that are being creative in marketing their companies. At many of these meetings a guest will be chosen to be the featured company, so you may be able to present yourself to a sizable group of people, just by explaining that you have written a book and wish to get it in front of the buying public. In some cases, you may meet someone that has ties to the media and can assist you in getting to the right people to get you some media attention.

Other than the Internet, this type of marketing requires you to be personable, professional and prepared. The quality of your book will be perceived by how you present it to the world. So take as much time as you need to get ready for your next and most important task, because if you do not market your book well, no one will likely buy it and your time and efforts will have been wasted. But, if you can convey the real meanings of the book and the potential impact it will have on people, personal contact will go a long way in getting the exposure that you want.

Book promotion can appear to be a daunting task, there are numerous opportunities for you to take this essential step. Loads more information on promoting books .

Crash Course In Creating An Online Media Room For Outstanding Publicity And Promotion

Experts, analysts, speakers and authors should have an online media room where interested parties can learn all about them from the point of view of hiring them for an event or using them as a resource in an article or for a TV or radio appearance. All of the information these parties need to make their decision is available in one space. Remember the old days when you sent along a hard copy of your media kit via overnight or regular mail? Well, an online media kits is similar to the older version of a media kit but is instantly available to whomever wishes to see it thus streamlining the process. Why wait? By waiting for the interested party to get your kit via overnight mail, you might miss the opportunity to a competitor who has all the information available right then and there.

Here are some media design tips to create a successful media page on your website. First, start with a consistent design on each page of our online media kit. Each page should have a header containing the following info: your name, your company name and contact info. Make it easy for the visitor to connect with you so keep your contact info accessible for the reader as once they have to hunt for your contact info they could get distracted and forget to come back to your page and contact you. The point of your online media kit is to showcase your talent, your accomplishments, credentials and your area of expertise with the objective of securing the media opportunity, media segment or your speaking event.

Keep in mind that the most important job of an online media kit is to showcase you. Your online media page or pages act as your spokesperson so make the best of them. Design the kit to set you apart from everyone else. Why you? Answer the question with well-designed content that moves the visitor along a certain path. No clutter as it just distracts the viewer and allows their attention to wander. Media kits that are online can help you in a phone conversation as well as you can ask the person you are speaking with to pull up your media page and you can guide them along, again, capturing their attention with the visual of your media kit and the personal touch of you speaking directly to them on the telephone.

Include a professional color picture of yourself in headshot format as this is the format that allows you to make the best impression to the viewer. Remember, first impressions matter so create a great headshot for your online media kit. Also, if you are an author, include the cover of your book as well. Since the target of an online media kit is usually the media or someone interested in hiring you for a speaking event, they will want to see a list of topics you can discuss along with questions you can be asked. You can include links to studies and facts that support your discussion as well. Be sure to include a list of articles you have written that discuss all of your areas of expertise. It may take some time to create the articles but they do showcase your knowledge nicely.

Include testimonials that you have collected from other members of the media or your previous speaking events as they help create certainty that you do a great job. Be sure to list your previous media accomplishments as they create lots of credibility for you. You can never underestimate the seal of approval you get from a third party that others recognize and respect. Include your demo videos, video of you on a TV show or presenting to an audience, links to audio recordings and links to articles that include you as well. Stay crisp and clean in our design and avoid clutter. Use color, of course, but let the color compliment the information you are presenting and not overpower it. And finally, let your contact information be known. Make it easy for your viewer to contact you and hire you!
